"Just about two years ago i seen a dance that came from down south called The Pop and Floating... the Floats were where you'd be, you'd make pretend you're running against the wind which is what Marcel Marceau did in mime and there was a lot of popping and robotic movement and thats when i started to combine the pantomime with the dancing which forms the name Electric Boogie; acting things out but while your dancing so that the crowd could understand it. The reason i used to really want to do the dance is because i'd see some people that would do the dance and not too hot and girls would... they'd watch 'em and think "Wow! How'd you move your body like that, how'd you do these movements?" You know they'd be... they'd be on it, and 'erm, so i started getting my name of Mr Freeze and getting better and i said to myself "If i get better than him there'll be much more girls coming to me" ...so i got better and all that and finally i got a bunch of girls come to me." It depicts a future in which all plant life on Earth has been made extinct. Only a few specimens have been preserved in enormous, greenhouse-like geodesic domes attached to a fleet of American Airlines space freighters, just outside the orbit of Saturn. Freeman Lowell (Bruce Dern), one of four crewmen aboard the Valley Forge, is the resident botanist and ecologist who preserves the forests for their eventual return to Earth and the reforestation of the planet.

When teaching in clinics and classes, Williams says he finds that 90% of the drummers can't even play a double stroke roll. Also, most drummers play with the front part of the hand between the thumb and fore finger. They must rely on bounce and are relegated to the surface they are playing on. He characterizes this as a willy-nilly hap hazard technique. From his early years of practicing and experiences (which started at age nine playing on a drum set for the first time in front of people) and from watching many incredible drummers during his formative years, Williams concluded that the best drummers play a different way. They play with the back part of their hand and hold the stick in the last two fingers. He says that playing with the hand in this way gives the drummer control of the stick as opposed to relying on bounce. He asserts that this kind of control is one of the most important aspects of drumming. Read more

Hi, my name is Fergadelic. I've been doing visuals for 2ManyDJs for a while & as a part of this large project I got to take part in this fantastic "Hardcore Or Die" mix; What a privilege!
I'm a big fan of a lot of this music, it's been an inspiration for me since I first heard it in my late teens...though I should add that there were plenty of tracks & artists on this mix that were new to me. The visual material was a joy to work with (getting to make the Corrosion Of Conformity toxic skull head bang was a big moment in my artistic career so far!) but I was particularly inspired by Dave & Steph's irreverent treatment of the music & in turn I tried to inject the same craziness & fun into the visuals; Also, while I'm a Hardcore fan I'm aware that many people aren't!..& it was my mission to use the visuals as a way in for people who might not otherwise listen to this stuff.
All credit is due to Steve from Soulwax, it was his passion for this music & involvement in the scene that inspired the mix in the first place(he once sat in on drums for Chaos U.K., as their drummer was too drunk to play…how cool is that?!)…also all credit to Nuno Costa, the animator who did such a great job interpreting my ideas. Now, are you ready for an hour of hardcore?!

Roman writer/artist Stefano Tamburini (1955-1986) devoted his ten years of activity mainly to underground comics. The thing he is most famous for is 'Ranxerox', the graphic novel series beautifully drawn by Tanino Liberatore: but he also founded magazines and published zines, made revolutionary graphic experiments and even designed fashion. His vision was ages ahead of his time and his name is sacred to Italian contemporary artists of any type: yet almost nothing can be found about him on the Internet.
Tamburini was into Zap and R. Crumb and Constructivist graphic design and Dada, but first thing he was a big music fan. He loved new wave and dub, Zappa and Devo, anything that played with musical forms as he did with pictures. For him no image was to be just looked at and no image had an owner.
The page below is from the 1980 'Snake Agent' series. Mostly made of maed strips stolen from Mel Graff's 'Secret Agent X-9', it was defined by Tamburini "the first comic book attempt where the artist's role proves to be obsolete".

In 1980 Tamburini took some of his industrial and no wave records and made a tape, he called it 'Thalidomusic For Young Babies' and released it in a few under the name Mongohony-Nazy
These two Youtube excerpts seem to be the only evidence of the tape's actual existence: ten minutes of painfully oppressive soundscapes that will gently introduce everyone to Stefano's witty and brutal manners.

"New World Pictures picked it up in the States. Fred [Hughes] and I wrote them a letter saying, 'Please cut the one scene where the baby's thrown out the window, it's too graphic, it breaks the black humour.' They didn't cut it out, so the only place you can advertise the film is on the porn page. They spent no money on promotion. It was a disaster. The movie got trashed... Andy never made another movie... Andy probably lost about $400,000... Bad was confiscated in Germany, the first film to be confiscated in years: physically taken out of the theatres because of excessive violence - the scene where the baby is thrown out of the window and the finger that was cut off by a Volkswagen. It was banned in Germany and it was a ciminal case. So we said, Andy's not going to Germany for a couple of months till we figure out if it's OK. He agreed and sent me a load of sound- and video clips, which he'd collected and put into context. I guess it's fair to call this album a conceptual piece, but i want to point out that it is foremost my own personal take on peter's work and he should not be held responsible for anything i've done. Ursula and Sabina Eriksson, born 1967, are a pair of Swedish twins who came to national attention in the United Kingdom in 2008 after an apparent episode of folie à deux which resulted in unique footage of insanity on the M6 motorway and the killing of Glenn Hollinshead. No drugs or alcohol were involved in any of the incidents. Their actions have never been explained, other than by a rare, induced delusional disorder which caused the pair to be temporarily insane.

The twins met in Ireland before travelling to England. After their odd behaviour caused them to be left at an M6 service station, they ran on to the motorway numerous times and were struck by oncoming vehicles, causing Ursula to be incapacitated. Sabina refused medical aid and attacked a police officer, at which point she was arrested. After being released by police in Stoke-on-Trent, Sabina then was taken in by a local resident whom she later killed in an unprovoked attack. She was arrested after jumping off a bridge into a busy road and later pleaded guilty to manslaughter with diminished responsibility. She was sentenced to five years imprisonment and is scheduled for release in mid-2011.

I want to put up a wonderful and odd film I have found in the BBC archives. It is a documentary made in 1969 in response to a growing panic about violent teenage gangs in England and it focusses on the Hells Angels and Skinheads.
The filmmakers went off to get in with a group of Hells Angels and with a gang of skinheads. Their aim was to find out who the scary psychopaths were that made up the gangs that were threatening society. But what they came back with is a weird and brilliant mini-drama about two groups of individuals who are not that different from us - but more bored...

The Shout is a 1978 British film directed by Jerzy Skolimowski, based on a short story by Robert Graves which was adapted for the screen by Michael Austin. Starring Alan Bates as a mysterious travelling man who invades the lives of a young couple, played by Susannah York and John Hurt. Hurt is a composer, who experiments with sound effects and various electronic sources in his secluded Devon studio. The couple provides hospitality to Bates, but his intentions are gradually revealed as more and more sinister. He claims he has learned from an Aboriginal shaman how to produce a "terror shout" that can kill anyone who hears it unprotected.

Huddie Ledbetter, better known to the music world as “Lead Belly” was born January 20, 1889, in Mooringsport, Louisiana (near Shreveport) as the only child of Wesley and Sally Ledbetter. As a young man he was introduced to the guitar by his Uncle Terrell Ledbetter and from that moment he was electrified by the guitar and its sound. He learned to play the accordion, mandolin and piano as well. Which gave him a wide knowledge of various musical instruments and rhythm. It has been said that one day Lead Belly witnessed a Mexican guitarist playing the twelve string guitar which struck his interest in mastering the unusual guitar with 12-strings.

He later became known as the “King of the 12-string Guitar” and “Stella” is what he affectionately called his guitar. Music was his way of expressing what was written on his heart and soul. At an early his father’s farm at an early age to pursue his music. Huddie traveled to Texas playing his guitar and even became friends with the legendary Blind Lemon Jefferson. He worked as as laborer doing jobs such as cotton picking, farming and lining the railroad tracks.

Lead Belly once said, “When I play, the women would come around to listen and their men would get angry.” In 1918, he was wrongfully convicted for murder in Dallas and sentenced to thirty years in the state prison in Huntsville, Texas. In 1925, he wrote a song asking Governor Pat Neff for a pardon. Neff, who had promised at his election never to pardon a prisoner, broke his promise and set Lead Belly free. Back on the road with many new songs he had learned or written in Texas, Huddie again found enthusiastic audiences throughout the south. But, as the center of admiring crowds, he was again the target of envy and jealousy. In 1930, after a racial fight at a party, which was likely in the Jim Crow south he was sentenced to another prison term in the infamous Angola Farm prison plantation in Louisiana. In a way, this was a stroke of luck, because he was recorded by folklorists John and Alan Lomax, who were recording folk songs for the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. Lead Belly was pardon in 1935, joining John Lomax and his son Alan, they showcased Lead Belly to northern audiences where he played on college campuses like Harvard, Princeton, and NYU. Internationally he was received with great acclaim as a famous singer of American folk songs.

The history of the butcher is narrated through voice-over and a montage of still photographs. Orphaned at a young age and subsequently abused by a priest, he opens a butcher shop and fathers an autistic daughter with a woman who leaves him because it is not a boy. He raises his daughter while fighting his incestuous feelings for her. On the day of her first menstrual period, he sees blood on her skirt and stabs an innocent man who he thinks raped her. He is sentenced to prison and forced to sell his butcher shop to a Muslim, and his daughter is put in an institution. He has sex with his prison cellmate, but after being released, he vows to forget it happened. He gets a job working for the fat woman who owns the tavern he used to drink in. She seduces him, and she becomes pregnant. She sells her business and moves to northern France with him, promising to purchase a butcher shop. It is now 1980.

The butcher hates his life with his overbearing, overweight mistress. She backs out of her promise to open a butcher shop, forcing him to take a night watchman job at a nursing home. Along with a nurse, he witnesses an elderly patient die, and he ruminates on the pointlessness of life. He fails to capitalize on the nurse's vulnerability, but his mistress accuses him of having an affair nonetheless. He snaps and punches his mistress in the belly several times, very likely killing their unborn child, then steals a pistol and flees.

The butcher determines to feel no guilt and returns to Paris. He rents the same flophouse room where he conceived his daughter and begins looking up his old friends, but they are all too decrepit and poor to help him. The butcher's interior monologues focus on his hatred of the rich and their exploitation of the lower class. He looks for butcher jobs, but the French economy is in recession and there are no jobs in any related field. After being turned away at a slaughterhouse that once did business with his shop, the butcher decides to kill the manager. He plots the murder at a local tavern, but is ejected from the bar at gunpoint after squabbling with the owner's son. The butcher finds that he has only three bullets in his gun, and begins assigning them to each of his various enemies.

He eventually decides to see his daughter. After meeting her at the asylum in which she is a patient, he takes her back to his room and hesitates, looking at his gun. He contemplates having sex with and then killing his daughter. The movie returns to the moment of the butcher's hesitation. He puts the gun away, resolving to be good, and tearfully embraces his daughter. He then again contemplates having sex with her in the same manner as he did with her mother. Standing at a window, he unzips his daughter's jacket and begins fondling her. His interior monologue asserts that their love is more pure because the world condemns it.

"Ballad of the Little Soldier" is the record of another Herzog journey, this time to northeastern Nicaragua to the territory of the Miskito Indians, the former allies of the Sandinistas in the revolution against the Somoza regime, but who are now engaged in their own war against the Sandinistas. Originally persecuted by the Somoza Government, the Miskitos joined the revolution in the fond hope of obtaining their own freedom and some sort of guarantee for their culture.

Once in power in Managua, however, the Sandinistas set about to bring the Miskitos into the "new" society. In theory, this meant moving the Miskitos to centralized communities where they would have access to the amenities of civilization. In fact, though, the Government's campaign resulted in the Miskitos being ruthlessly uprooted, their villages destroyed, their crops burned, their livestock butchered and the systematic massacre of all recalcitrants - men, women and children.

Now, apparently equipped by the Central Intelligence Agency, the Miskitos have put together a crack commando troop, about half of whom are boys 10 to 12 years old, trained by former members of the Somoza regime's notorious National Guard. Early in "Ballad of the Little Soldier," Mr. Herzog and his crew accompany a small band of Indian commandos on a raid into Sandinista territory, which, as so often happens in a Herzog film, comes to nothing when the raiders are spotted by Government troops.

Most of the film is composed of interviews in refugee camps with the Miskitos, who tell their first-person narratives of torture and murder with a terrible, placid stoicism. Mr. Herzog, a political skeptic whose initial sympathies, I assume, were with the revolution, records all this with unsentimental sorrow. ''I can't believe,'' he says at one point, ''that the Sandinistas intended this to happen.'' Elsewhere he has been quoted as saying he's convinced the Sandinista Government must collapse, though whether because of its own excesses or outside intervention is not clear.

The most moving moment in the film comes when Mr. Herzog's assistant director, Denis Reichle, after listening to the testimony of 10- and 12- year-old boy commandos who express their willingness to fight the good fight and to die, recalls that this was just the sort of thing he heard in Germany in the last days before the fall of Hitler, when the Nazis were recruiting boys into the army.

From the doomy intro riff of 'The Stench of Burning Death' through to that famous final yell of 'Fuck!' on 'Horrified', this remains a seminal influence on both death metal and grindcore."

The production is excellent; meaty, echoing guitar and distorted-to-white-noise bass are mixed perfectly with the clattering drums and grating vocals. It's raw, atmospheric and heavy as all fuck. The songwriting is truly magnificent; keeping the 'songs' catchy and to the point, Repulsion vary things up nicely, alternating between exhausting speed-fests and headbanging thrash with aplomb - cliff-drop stops, violent tempo changes and sudden, cackling, shrieking guitar 'solos' (a leering mockery of virtuosity) hit with impunity from all sides. And then there are the riffs! Yes, that's correct - Repulsion are a grind band who actually had real riffs, courtesy of their myriad thrash influences. There are A LOT of riffs in here, and they vary from three-chord smashing to intricate thrashing. Repulsion know both how to bolt different riffsets together and how to flow between riffs, letting them modulate and evolve, a growing pestilent cancer. Nothing is wasted. Nothing is misplaced. Vienna-based guitarist Christian Fennesz is one of the city's many artists associated with the noted Editions Mego label, which releases mostly free-form ambient and experimental electronica. Similar in some respects to the work of Seefeel or Experimental Audio Research, Fennesz's six-string soundscapes are both darker than the former and more complex and intricate than the latter, combining dense, multi-layered sheets of treated guitar and synth with thin, odd-metered electronic percussion and engaging sampler work.
His first solo work for Mego, the Instrument EP, was released in 1996, and featured four tracks of stunning, uncompromising ambient and electro-acoustic music, combining elements of experimental electro/techno with heavily treated guitar and electronics.
